What is Mermaidcore? All about the new aesthetic

                                     

     First of all, the mermaidcore aesthetic emerged thanks to the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. The trend has been adopted by many celebrities including Halle Bailey who is portraying Ariel in the new film, Dua Lipa, Amanda Seyfried, Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell. Moreover, multiple collections of Spring/Summer 2023 were conducted by outfits that remind us of this aesthetic. For example, Blumarine's creative director, Nicola Brognano suggested that he wanted to change the girly feel of the mermaid into more feminine. Furthermore, in Jean Paul Gaultier's collection, Florence Tétier had the vision of a moderm mermaid.

How can you achieve the Mermaidcore?

• Hair    

The ''Wet Look'' is an important start in order to achieve the mermaid-feel. Moreover, your hair should be wavy while looking effortless. Feel free to add all kinds of braids and bejewel your hair with pearls!

• Make-up

Important is the blue eyeshadow so that it reminds us of the ocean. Shimmer blue could be preferable, while many bejewel their make-up too.

• Clothing

As for clothing, best would be flowy clothes with ruffles. Another way to embrace mermaidcore is iridescent sequins in both clothes and accessories. Lastly, you can always choose to wear knitted pieces (preferable tight fitted), in vibrant colours.
